Technical Content Writer
About Me
My Background
I majored in English at The Ohio State University and followed it up with a Master of Education at the University of Dayton. I followed my husband to Northern Virginia, where I taught high school English for fifteen years. I was fortunate to teach in a place where many of the students' guardians are heavily invested in their student's success, so my customer/community relation skills have been essential, including my ability to interface with people who are in C-level positions.
After becoming a team leader in the English department, I gained project leadership for two large-scale initiatives: The Exhibition of Learning and the Sophomore Interdisciplinary Team. While planning, implementing, and scaling these projects, I was also working with 150 students to gain the skills required for their grade-level English course as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Since leaving the classroom, I have worked as an instructional content writer for Propello and a technical content writer for Vertex Innovations. At Propello, I learned how to use content management systems, Asana, and assessment engines. While at Vertex Innovations, I was subcontracted to the Rapid Innovation Team of Google Public Sector (through LTIMindtree). I packaged demos (made demo decks and guides), worked on marketing pitch decks, wrote one-pagers, and produced enablement videos for customer engineers. I learned to work with a globally dispersed team and build collegial working relationships with software engineers and Figma.
DISPOSITIONAL INFORMATION
Because you want to know if I'll be an asset to your team
I'm happiest when I'm learning.
Learning looks like listening, reading, researching, talking, collaborating, considering, and weighing options. Sometimes learning looks like starting over.
Sharing knowledge and collaborating are my jam.
I like to make it easier for other people to do their tasks. I also like the buzz of collaborative creativity and problem-solving.
I'm organized, and I love office supplies.
I like digital reminders, calendar integrations, Post-Its, and any pen that glides and dries quickly. I'm a lefty and I hate smears.
I marched with the band as a member of the color guard.
I know the importance of punctuality, collective responsibility, and the drive for excellence. I know that the right step and the "almost" right step are not the same thing.

So what?
I've known lots of different kinds of people, and I have honed my people skills. I'm highly observant. I know how to listen and how to give people space to speak. I'm good at synthesizing multiple streams of qualitative data and drawing conclusions. I know how and when to confidently state my opinion, and I know how to be humble.
